Tearoom Opens at Publika Shopping Gallery
After eight years of operating in the spa business, the
owners of Hammam Spa have finally opened Hammam Tearoom at Publika to
complement Hammam Spa: to complete the customer experience for the Hammam spa
customer who can finish a decadent pampering session with a leisurely authentic
Moroccan meal. Hammam Tearoom also aims
to introduce a high quality of authentic Moroccan cuisine to Malaysians.
They engaged Kam Kah Zen and Bertrand Lai to design
Hammam Tearoom. The design concept highlights the various spaces within a
traditional Moroccan riad (courtyard house): the courtyard section which has
open folding doors, the living room section which resembles traditional Moroccan
living rooms and the terrace section with typical lemon wood furniture. The bar
is an actual replica of a traditional herbal tea stall that can be found in
Djem elfna, the largest marketplace is Marakesh.
The unique and colourful surroundings set the stage for
the exotic cuisine from Morocco which has an equally colourful origin given its
diverse influences from Africa, Arabia and the Mediterranean. Dishes such as Tagines, Pastilla, Tangia and
Cous Cous distinguish Moroccan cuisine from typical middle eastern cuisine.
Spices and preserved lemons are also subtly blended to enhance the flavour and
fragrance of Moroccan cooking and such flavour boost is not accompanied with
additional fat or calories, rendering Moroccan cuisine incredibly healthy. Indeed,
“Moroccan food is an adventure on the table”.
Hammam Tearoom’s concept is to cook authentic Moroccan
recipes using traditional methods: e.g., Tangia of lamb to be slow cooked in a
jug using charcoal, Meshwi of lamb (available in Sept) to be roasted in a mud
oven.
Given Hammam Tearoom’s spa origin, the drink list is
extensive and features healthy smoothies, juices and herbal teas with
therapeutic benefits to cater for the needs of Hammam spa’s clientele. The Moroccan smoothies also come in unusual
combinations such as Avocado and dried dates, orange and peach, mango and
banana etc. For years, Hammam Spa has
gained the reputation for serving the best Moroccan Mint Tea and Baklava in
town.
The restaurant can comfortably accommodate 40 - 50 people
for events.
About
the owners
Adam Demnati, born and raised in Marakesh, Morocco is the
chef owner who is passionate about showcasing authentic Moroccan cuisine in
Malaysia and he does so with the warm hospitality that Morocco is infamous for.
Su En Kam, Malaysian co-owner handles the operational
aspects of the business.
Adam and Su En have plans to export the Hammam Tearoom
concept abroad as part of the long term strategy of building Hammam as a global
brand.

Hammam Tearoom, located at Level G4, red zone of Publika
Shopping Gallery (adjacent to Hammam Spa), currently serves lunch and dinner
seven days a week from 12 pm till 11 pm. The breakfast menu will be launched on
1st September. For
