The "Art in Paradise" gallery is worth a visit as Bangkok does not have one! Pattaya is one an dhalf hours drive from Bangkok and it alone justifies the drive though once you are in Pattaya you must also visit "Sanctuary of Truth", a wooden palace by the sea which is 34 years old and still under construction!
"Art in Paradise" is well named as Pattaya is a sort of paradise with sand, sea, surf, sangria and er, sex galaore!
House in a nice but ordinary large building, "Art in Paradise" is just a vast space with huge rooms filled with nothing but flat, non-3D paintings! Each painting on the wall is totally flat and smooth to the touch with no extensions, protrusions or appendages. Unlike other museums or art galleries where you get arrested, beaten and jailed for touching works of art and wall paintings, here in "Art in Paradise" you are not only expected to touch but encouraged as how else could you blend and morph into the paintings?
Actually, just by standing alone you automatically become part of the painting so "Art in Paradise" is ideal for those without an iota of creativity and whose idea of innovation is to eat a slice of bread from both sides. But for those who brains actually function, this is art paradise! I thought I was being creative but soon started following a gang of teenagers and kids under 10 years and mimicked what they were doing!
"Art in Paradise" is a new, fresh and fun take on sedate old masterpieces like 'Mona Lisa' by Leonardo da Vinci and 'Birth of Venus' by Botticelli as well as one-off, original paintings of temples, waterfalls, Angkor Wat, canyons et infinitum.
"Art in Paradise" closes the gap between viewer and masterpieces as ingenious use of shading, shadows and optical illusions, the paintings trick our eyes into seeing what the artists plan---elephants appearing to step out of the frame, fish swimming out from wall onto space, Great White shark bursting out of the aquarium to have you for a snack or a polar bear sealing a sip from your cocktail as you repose under a multi-coloured brolly on a deck chair!
But as they say, a picture is worth a 1,000 words even if they are by Kee Hua Chee. Or in this case, a painting is worth a 1,000 words!
This is the building containing "Art in Paradise" in Pattaya
