NEW ZEALAND WEEK 2014 IS COMING!
New Zealand Week is an annual event organised by the New Zealand Government and the Malaysia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (MNZCC). This is an opportunity for businesses and educational institutions to partner with us in a series of events to foster relationship and collaboration between the two countries.

This year we want to explore and celebrate the deep historical and cultural linkages that exist between Māori in our part of the world and the various ethnic groups that live in Malaysia. We have called New Zealand Week 2014, Lima Mata Ikan. This phrase - in English it translates as five fish eyes - is almost identical in Māori, Rima Mata Ika.

New Zealand week will be celebrated in Kuching (21-23 March) and Kuala Lumpur (24-28 March). We are preparing to receive a large and multifaceted delegation which will be led by Minister of Māori Affairs the Honourable Dr Pita Sharples. In addition the Chair of the New Zealand Parliamentary Friendship Group, Melissa Lee MP. There will be large business group in the delegation focusing on food & beverage, tourism, environmental services and education sectors. Most of New Zealand’s major universities and several polytechnic institu-tions will also be with us.

Lima Mata Ikan will be a vibrant programme of events that will include Business matching events in both Kuala Lumpur and Kuching, Gala Nights, NZ Alumni Reunion Dinner, Eco-Tourism seminar at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), retail promotions, a short film making competition in which young Malaysian and New Zealand film makers will be tested on their ability to collaborate, Culinary workshops with Berjaya University College of Hospitality, and NZ film screening.

The annual New Zealand Week will be in full swing later this month. They are calling this year’s festival LIMA MATA IKAN - RIMA MATA IKA because it celebrates the deep cultural linkages between the two countries.

Below is the festival programme. There are still many opportunities to get involved - whether through sponsorship, purchasing tickets for individual events, or buying tee shirts.
