At
a ceremony held in the lounges of the Hôtel Martinez and attended by leading
figures from the world of cinema including the Délégué Général of the Festival,
Thierry Frémaux, Cate Blanchett, the prestigious patroness of the Trophée
Chopard 2014, officially presented their respective awards to Adèle
Exarchopoulos, whose talent was revealed in Blue is the Warmest Colour
directed by Abdellatif Kechiche – winner of the Cannes 2013 Palme d'or – and to
Logan Lerman, one of the leading characters in Darren Aronfsky’s latest
blockbuster, Noah.
After the ceremony, guests gravitated towards the
Chopard Rooftop terrace on the top floor of the Martinez, to enjoy an elegant
and exclusive evening.
Cannes,
May 15th 2014 – Born of Caroline Scheufele’s passion for the
Seventh Art, the Trophée Chopard, awarded in partnership with Variety
magazine and with the support of the President of the Cannes Festival, Gilles
Jacob, is intended to encourage new talents in cinema by naming them Best Young
Actor and Best Young Actress of the year.
For this 14th edition, the
jury was composed of Steve Gaydos, Executive Editor of Variety, actor
Colin Firth, producer Harvey Weinstein, director Atom Egoyan, director and
producer Lee Daniels and Caroline Scheufele, co-president of Chopard. After
careful deliberation, they decided to single out French actress Adèle
Exarchopoulos, whose talent was revealed in Abdellatif Kechiche’ Blue is the Warmest Colour – winner of the 2013 Palme d'or in
Cannes, currently appearing in Qui vive by Marianne Tardieu; as well as American actor Logan
Lerman, hero of the Percy Jackson feature film series and one of the
main characters in Noah, the latest blockbuster from Darren Aronofsky.
It
was with considerable emotion that the two young actors received their prizes
from Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, patroness of the 2014 edition.
Created by Caroline Scheufele herself, the Trophée Chopard represents a
powerful cinematic symbol: a film spool finely crafted by the skilled hands of
the Chopard master-jewellers.

Jane Fonda, Penélope Cruz, Pedro Almodovar, Atom Egoyan, Zhang Ziyi, Paz Vega,
Masami Nagasawa and Alice Taglioni. The refined
atmosphere of the evening was enhanced by Grey Goose cocktails and Boizel
champagne. The evening was enlivened by Bastian Baker, Swiss born rising star
of the international folk-pop scene, whose concert kept guests entertained
through to the early hours.
