Malaysia External Trade Development
Corporation (MATRADE) will bring new life to the Lifestyle sector this year
when they organise and host the inaugural Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW). MATRADE will join forces with STYLO
International to host this 3-pillar B2B event scheduled from 17 to 22 October
2014.

This will mark the first dedicated trade
fashion event organised by the Government Agency in partnership with the
private sector at an international level for the local fashion industry. The 3
pillars under the new MFW are the Malaysian Fashion Season; the Mercedes-Benz
STYLO Asia Fashion Week and FACIT, a trade exhibition. FACIT is abbreviation
for Fashion, Art, Cosmetic, Interior and Textiles.
An MoU signing ceremony and media
conference were held in MATRADE today. Leading the signing ceremony was Datuk
Dr Wong Lai Sum, CEO of MATRADE and Chairman of the MFW with Datuk Nancy Yeoh,
President & CEO of STYLO International and Co-Chairman of the MFW. Witnessing the signing ceremony were the
Secretary-General of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry Datuk Dr
Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria who is Advisor of the MFW and Datuk Professor Jimmy
Choo, Honorary Advisor of the MFW and AFW.
“In the Government’s continuing effort to put
Malaysia in the global fashion map, it is important that the country has a
defined fashion agenda. A government and
private sector collaboration is necessary and today we are pleased that MATRADE
and STYLO International has signed an MoU to jointly organise the Malaysia
Fashion Week and establish a segment within INTRADE call FACIT, the trade
exhibition of this fashion week” said Datuk Dr Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria,
Secretary General, Ministry Of International Trade And Industry at the MoU
signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.
Citing Malaysia’s renowned global
achievement in fashion creativity, ready-to-wear brand names and traditional
textile, she urged Malaysian companies in the Lifestyle sector to participate
at INTRADE 2014 and the Malaysia Fashion Week to promote, position and brand
Malaysia in the global fashion arena.
MATRADE is the national promotion agency
of Malaysia and has 44 offices in major cities across all 4 continents. MATRADE
connects Malaysian enterprises to world markets. STYLO International together
with Mercedes-Benz holds its annual B2C fashion festivals in Kuala Lumpur in
March and the recently launched B2B Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week
(MBSAFW) capsule event. The MBSAFW is the only Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in
South-East Asia and its 30th in the world.
Also present at the ceremony were key
players and representatives of the country’s fashion and retail industries such
as MODA (Malaysia Official Designers Association), BDA (Bumiputra Designers
Association), YODA (Young Official Designers Association), the Malaysian
Footwear Manufacturers' Asscociation, the Malaysian Jewellery Association, the
Malaysian Retail Chain Association, Branding Association of Malaysia,
dDesigners, Industry players and Fashion Schools, Universities and Academies.
During the Malaysia Fashion Week, the
trade exhibition - FACIT@INTRADE will feature unique displays of high-style
products and services from local and international designers, manufacturers and
artists.
The fashion presentations under the
Malaysia Fashion Season (MFS) will unveil Malaysia’s best of the best for the
coming season and will feature leading and emerging Malaysian creative talents
– fashion, accessories, hair and make-up.
The Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion
Week will continue its domination on Asia with “Asia for Asia” bringing
designers, celebrities, fashion buyers and international media for the event
from over 15 Asian countries.
All events are held in conjunction with
INTRADE 2014, Malaysia’s 8th international event for exporters organised by
MATRADE. INTRADE 2014 will focus on lifestyle products:

October at Menara MATRADE, Kuala Lumpur. Over 450 exhibitors from over 30
