Alia is the youngest daughter of Dato Robert Geneid of Australia and Dato Raziah Mahmud, sister of Chief Minister of Sarawak Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Dias is the son of former Kazakh ambassador HE Beibut Atamkulov to Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Philippines. Mr Beibut Atamkulov was appointed ambassador in 2010 and now he will be based in Almaty in Kazakhstan.
Luckily the former ambassador resided in Kuala Lumpur or else he would not have returned to Kazakhstan with a lovely daughter-in-law!
Dias and Alia met simply because they lived on the same floor at Pavilion Residences atop The Pavilion KL!
"Actually I knew Alia's mother Dato Raziah first before I met Alia," says Dias Atamkulov who looks like a movie star. "In fact, we were neighbours for nearly 2 years but did not meet each other! Alia was studying overseas so our paths did not cross till I attended her mother's birthday in 2011. We were formally introduced and I fell in love instantly.
"I asked for her mobile but she refused to give! But I got her number from one of her friends who told her he gave her number to me and to expect my call."
Smiles the radiant bride, "I was hoping he would call! He did and we went on from there and it was not long before I decided I would love to be Mrs Alia Atamkulov---AA is so nice!"
