SWEDISH AMBASSADOR TO MALAYSIA HIS EXCELLENCY MR BENGT CARLSSON AND MADAME WIVEKA CARLSSON HOSTED NATIONAL DAY OF SWEDEN ON 5 JUNE 2014 AT HILTON KUALA LUMPUR

The lavish reception hosted by the Swedish Ambassador to Malaysia His Excellency Mr Bengt Carlsson and Madame Wiveka Carlsson was attended by some 500 guests from all walks of life.

The guest of honour rrepresenting the Government of  Malaysia and Malaysia people was Dato Sri James Dawos Mamit the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.

I love the short and sweet speeches by the Malaysian Deputy Minister and Swedish Ambassador---there was hardly any talking!

Dato Sri James Dawos Mamit toasted the health of His Majesty the King of Sweden King Carl XVI Gustaf and the people of Sweden.

In turn, His Excellency Mr Bengt G Carlsson toasted His Majesty the King of Malaysia DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertain Agong and the people of Malaysia.

Said the Swedish ambassador, "Don't worry this will not be a long speech as I want all of you to enjoy Swedish food like meatballs with lindenberry sauce as well as Malaysian delights!

National Day of Sweden is celebrated annually in Sweden on 6/6 but in Kuala Lumpur it was held a day earlier.

Previously it was called Swedish Flag Day but in 1983 the Rijksdag renamed it National Day of Sweden.

The national day is celebrated in honour of the founding of Sweden on 6 June 1523 when King Gustav Vasa became King of Sweden, marking the end of Denmark dominated Kalmar Union. It was first celebrated in 1916 at Stockholm Olympic Stadium as a national holiday.
