KIEHL'S FOR MEN NOW HAS NEW PRODUCTS

KEE@FSWMAG.COM

SINCE 1851 KIEHL'S (FORMERLY KHIEL'S PHARMACY) OF NEW YORK HAS BEEN LOOKING AFTER MEN'S SKIN. KHIEL'S STARTED AS A SKINCARE RANGE FOR THE PROTECTION OF MALE SKIN THOUGH THEY ALSO HAD A RANGE FOR WOMEN.

Today, Kiehl's is world famous for its affordably priced luxury products that work---and what more can a consumer ask for? OK perhaps even lower prices but life does throw spanners into your wheel. Anyway for around RM 300 to RM 400 you can get a basic skincare set that should last at least 3 months so you do get value for money.

The important thing is that Kiehl's products work, like Dior's The Creme which costs nearly RM 3,000 a jar and BML's new Gluta Series which costs RM 320 for 4 products.

Kiehl's latest twosome that is taking the world by storm are Facial Fuel No Shine Hydrator and Facial Fuel Sky Flyin' Foaming Multi-Gel. To this you can add Eye Alert which was launched last April.

Try these terror threesome and tell me if they work for you.

Kiehl’s Since 1851, purveyors of the finest skin and hair care products, is pleased to introduce a breakthrough solution for men to control shine and sweat, while providing 24-hour hydration: Facial Fuel “No-Shine” Hydrator. This super-absorbent formula for men’s oily skin uses patented technology to help reduce the appearance of oil and shine, leaving skin clean and healthy-looking.

Utilizing a Patented Technology to Effectively Reduce Appearance of Shine

Kiehl’s chemists utilized patented technology to develop a naturally-derived mineral formulation of Magnesium, Sodium PCA plus Zinc. This unique oil-free, silicone-free and paraben-free formula works in the following ways:

·         Functions like micro-sponges on the skin’s surface to absorb the appearance of excess oil and shine
·         Provides skin with an instant, refreshing boost of pure hydration

When tested on a group of 42 men, Kiehl’s Facial Fuel “No-Shine” Hydrator[1] showed significant results:

·         Immediately reduced the appearance of shine by over 25%
·         Immediately reduced the feel of oil on the skin by over 50%

In a consumer study over 24 hours, Kiehl’s Facial Fuel “No-Shine” Hydrator demonstrated strong results.

After Immediate Use:
94% noticed skin felt hydrated/moisturized
92% noticed texture clean and fresh
92% noticed formula absorbed quickly into skin
92% noticed formula was lightweight on skin
90% noticed formula did not leave residue on skin
84% noticed skin did not feel greasy/oily

Within 8 Hours of Use:

Ingredient/Technology Glossary:

Zinc
Key skin mineral known for its astringent qualities; within this formula, Zinc works to reduce the appearance of oil.
Sodium PCA
Present naturally in the skin, Sodium PCA is considered a significantly hydrating molecule. Its role is to help restore an optimal hydration level in the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the epidermis).
Magnesium
Naturally present in the skin, it helps to restore the cutaneous barrier and moisture level.
“Micro-sponge” architecture within the formula
This technology has the ability to absorb water up to 700x its weight in moisture, aiding in leaving a clean, matte finish on the skin.

Dr. Geyer talks Men’s Skincare

Men’s skin produces excess sebum.Increased sebum production can cause pores to expand and appear more stretched out.  There’s also a cascading effect that occurs when sebum sits in pores and becomes oxidized from being in contact with oxygen in the air. This process promotes an ongoing cyclic inflammation, further dilation of and even more accumulation of dirt and debris within the pores,” explains Geyer.

Men’s skin sweats more.Although men have fewer apocrine glands (aka sweat glands), they have a significantly higher production rate of sweat itself. Because their sweat has a lower pH (which means it’s more acidic), it tends to have a more negative effect on skin’s barrier function, crucial for maintaining healthy, youthful skin. As the more acidic sweat evaporates off of skin, it can also strip the skin’s essential moisture and cause excessive dehydration,” says Geyer.

Many men tend to over dry their skin when trying to combat excess oiliness.Men tend to use highly drying, skincare products and routines to lessen shine, which can lead to the overproduction of oil and further damage of the skin’s barrier function.”

If left alone, these three attributes can become problematic, often leading to more serious skincare concerns later on in life,” says Dr. Adam Geyer, Kiehl’s Consulting Dermatologist and founder of Tribeca Park Dermatology in New York City, who estimates that half of his patients are men. “In my practice, I often educate my male patients that for them, treating something as simple as oil on the skin’s surface can help prevent dilation of pores and ensure more balanced, healthy skin long-term.”

Through the years, Kiehl’s chemists have focused their efforts toward the special complexion concerns that men face on a daily basis.  Shave creams were one of Kiehl’s first products developed specifically for men and Kiehl’s chemists hold significant expertise in this category. Today, Kiehl’s is proud to introduce the latest addition to the beloved men’s Facial Fuel Collection - Sky Flyin’ Foaming Multi-Gel. Kiehl’s chemists successfully developed a dual-action formula that is a superbly foaming gel shave cream and an effective cleanser. With a unique blend of ingredients, this versatile formula provides male customers with two options for use and multiple benefits.

Naturally efficacious ingredients for men’s special cleansing needs and habits
“There are a few differences in male skin.  A man’s skin tends to have larger pores, which can easily get clogged encouraging skin blemishes. Second, their skin produces excess sebum (oil) that can cause their pores to further expand.  Third, men tend to sweat more, which can have an acidic effect on the skin. To ensure the optimal health of their skin, men should incorporate a gentle, yet highly effective daily cleanser into their routine,” states Dr. Adam Geyer, Kiehl’s Product Development Consulting Dermatologist.

To meet the distinct skin care needs of men, this highly lathering, dense foam gel cleanser is packed with Bamboo, Lemon and Orange Fruit Extracts to deeply and gently cleanse skin. Lemon and Orange Fruit Extracts act as natural astringents to help minimize the appearance of pores while removing surface oil and impurities. Bamboo Extract adds an additional astringent action on the skin and is known for its soothing, nourishing properties.

Dr. Geyer continues, “Men have a tendency to over-cleanse their skin or use harsh products to address their skincare issues. I always recommend my patients use a cleanser that can effectively remove oil and impurities without over-drying or stripping the skin.

Kiehl’s experts deliver a speedy multi-beneficial formula
“We knew two things going into the development of this product. We wanted this product to be the next evolution of our iconic, tried-and-true shave formulas and we knew the average man is quite busy with little time to commit to grooming.  A 2011 Gallup study[1] showed that 38% of men now spend 10 minutes or less on grooming versus 22% in 2005.  Grooming has become an important value for men yet they have less time to spare. We had to develop our next-generation, timesaving shave product,” states Roberta Weiss, Senior Vice President Product Development.

“To our innovation team, multi-function means more than having two purposes in one product. To meet the Kiehl’s standards, each purpose, cleansing and shaving, had to be able to stand on its own. Why? We knew that not all men would use it for both purposes. So as a cleanser, it had to show high performance and as a shave cream, we required the same high standards. To accomplish this, we needed to ensure that the ingredients we selected provided benefits regardless of whether you use it to shave, cleanse or both,” states Dr. Angelike Galdi, Kiehl’s Head Chemist & AVP of Research and Innovation.
