RM 4.4 MILLION WEDDING GOWN FOR PERRIER-JOUET CHAMPANE

KEE@FSWMAG.COM

IN CHINESE CULTURE, SYMBOLS, NUMBERS AND SOUNDS ARE OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE SO MALAYSIAN CHINESE BUYING HONG KONG DESIGNER DORIAN HO AND PERRIER-JOUET CHAMPAGNE MAY HAVE TO ASK HIM TO TWEAK HIS ASKING PRICE.

In Hong Kong dollars, $ 8,880,000 is as auspicious as it gets though the price should be HK$ 8,888,888 since anyone who can pay HK$ 8 million can top up a few more dollars. The number 8 is considered extremely lucky as it sounds the same as 'prosperous' whereas 4 sounds the same as 'death'!

But converted into Malaysian Ringgit, it is as nasty as it gets, RM 4.44 million! That is to die not once but thrice! This applies in both Hokkien and Cantonese the local dialect of Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur whereas in Kota Baru and Taiwan, it is Hokkien.

So Malaysian buyers will have to ask Dorian Ho to either add more pearls to round up the price to RM 5 million or remove some to reduce it to RM 3 million!

Still, a collaboration between a top Hong Kong designer and Perrier-Jouet champagne is ideal as champers are best accompanied by weddings!

About Perrier-Jouët
Since it was established in 1811, the Champagne house of Perrier-Jouët has remained committed to one goal: presenting Champagne drinkers with the most refined, elegant and superb Champagnes available, and celebrating the finer things in life with bottles and magnums available only at the finest restaurants, the most sophisticated bars and the most luxurious dinner parties.

About the Pearl Wedding Gown
This is the first-ever collaboration between Dorian Ho and Perrier-Jouët, with Perrier-Jouët as an elegant source of inspiration for the pearl wedding gown.  The idea was stimulated during Dorian’s travel to a fashion week in Paris and visit to the Perrier-Jouët Maison Belle Époque in Épernay.  Whilst working on his new collection of wedding gowns for Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong’s Bridal Fair, Dorian was inspired by the embossed artistic anemone pattern design on the bottle of the premium Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque, which was then dazzlingly transposed into the design of the champagne-themed gown.  Further inspiration came from what is inside the bottle, dripping with silvery-white pearls that resemble the bubbles of Perrier-Jouët champagne.

Commenting on the new collection, Dorian Ho said, “Perrier-Jouët has long embraced the design community and partnered with different artists.  It is my honour to be the first designer to create a wedding gown for the brand with such an elegant source of inspiration.  I have tried to produce something that aspires to the same level of rarefied quality and delightful effervescence.”
