Malaysian
Association of Hotels (MAH) celebrated the 40th Anniversary in Dorsett
Grand Subang on 27th May 2014 recently. About 1,000 guests graced
the night and were dressed to impress, most of whom were esteemed general
managers and hoteliers from MAH Member Hotels and Associate Members.

Mohd Ilyas Zainol Abidin, MAH President recalled the milestones recorded for
the past four decades of MAH. “On this
grand occasion, let me take this opportunity to remind you of the many
challenges facing the tourism industry globally. Though we are best with crisis
after crisis, let us not lose sight of the fundamental promise of tourism that
it is still the only industry that unites people regardless of nationality or
culture,” says Ms. Christina Toh.

Also in
conjunction with the 40th Anniversary celebration, the 3rd MAH Hotel
Employee Awards was announced. “Twelve
star hotel employees were nominated as state finalists by MAH’s state chapters
and only one will go home with the coveted MAH Hotel Employee National Champion
Trophy with a cash reward of RM 5,000,” commented Mr. Cheah Swee Hee,
Chairman of the MAH 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner.
The twelve
finalists are:
- Mr.
Mohd Mukhtar bin Othman from Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA, representative of
Selangor Chapter;
- Mr.
Premkumar A/L Mahaedren from Avillion Port Dickson, representative of
Negeri Sembilan Chapter;
- Ms.
Thareesa A/P Prak Chum from Seri Pacific Hotel, representative of Kuala
Lumpur Chapter;
- Mr.
Muhendra Reddy A/L Athinarayanan from Four Seasons Resort Langkawi,
representative of Kedah/Perlis Chapter;
- Mr.
Hishamudin bin Kadir from Ramada Plaza Melaka, representative of Melaka
Chapter;
- Ms.
Jossy Anak Uchi from New World Suites Bintulu, representative of Sarawak
Chapter;
- Mr.
Tanjit Singh A/L Savaran Singh from Impiana Hotel Ipoh, representative of
Perak Chapter;
- Mr.
Tan Zhi Hong from Eastin Hotel Penang, representative of Penang Chapter;
- Mr.
Rul Hazrien bin Khairi from Hyatt Regency Kuantan Resort, representative
of Pahang Chapter;
- Mr.
Syed Faisal bin Syed Idrus from Thistle Johor Bahru, representative of
Johor Chapter;
- Ms.
Siti Nurayuni Binti Che Mohd Nasir from Hotel Perdana Kota Bharu,
representative of Kelantan Chapter;
- Mr.
Mohd Fauzi bin Latip from Gayana Eco Resort, representative of Sabah/Labuan
Chapter.
The organizing
chairman of MAH Hotel Employee Awards 2014, Mr. Kamaruddin Baharin announced
the top three finalist whose marks were closely tied: Mr. Muhendra Reddy A/L
Athinarayanan from Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, representative of Kedah/Perlis
Chapter; Mr. Tan Zhi Hong from Eastin Hotel Penang, representative of Penang
Chapter and Ms. Thareesa A/P Prak Chum from Seri Pacific Hotel, representative
of Kuala Lumpur Chapter.
The Grand
Champion, winning a trophy and cash prize went to Ms. Thareesa A/P Prak Chum
from Seri Pacific Hotel, MAH Kuala Lumpur Chapter.
The Grand Champion will have
the added responsibility of the role of being national ambassador for the
industry for the next twenty- four months. These finalists were awarded
trophies and certificates in recognition of their outstanding hospitality
proficiency as nominees from their respective MAH State Chapters.
This prestigious award celebrates the unsung
heroes of the hospitality industry. It is dedicated to honour and reward
individuals who have shown drive, dedication and passion for the hospitality
industry. The awards focus on the professionals who strive ceaselessly to give
guests a hospitality experience and this recognition aims to motivate hoteliers
to strive for excellence and maintain high standards in the industry.
Two lifetime achievement awards were presented
to the individuals who contributed immensely to the hotel industry - Mr. Ivo R.
Nekvapil who is in Australia for medical treatment and represented by his son Matthew Nekvapil and Mr. Agus Salim who were pleasantly surprised.
